Catalina & Associates, A Professional Corporation, Intellectual Property Law Firm
About Me:
I am a registered U.S. Patent Attorney and founder and managing attorney of Catalina & Associates, A Professional Corporation, a boutique intellectual property law firm with offices in Princeton and Robbinsville, New Jersey, and New York City, specializing in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, licensing, unfair competition and advertising law. The firm serves small to mid size tech and life science companies throughout New Jersey, the metropolitan area, and internationally.

For four consecutive years, 2005 through 2008, I was elected a New Jersey “Super Lawyer” in the Intellectual Property category by my peer attorneys and was featured in consecutive annual issues of New Jersey monthly magazine, including, most recently, April 2008. Out of more than 64,000 attorneys admitted in the State of New Jersey, only twelve were selected a New Jersey “Super Lawyer” for the category of “Intellectual Property” in 2008 and I am honored and privileged to stand among them.

I represent clients in advanced intellectual asset legal matters, including complex licensing and joint ventures, due diligence, intellectual property prosecution, enforcement and counseling, and implementation of global intellectual asset strategies. I have developed an expertise in intellectual asset management and exploitation strategies and strategic global positioning through incisive intellectual asset management and capitalization.

My clients are industry leaders in cutting-edge innovation that include revolutionary free-space optical communications and defense systems; systems simulation, modeling, analysis, research and testing; information assurance software, systems and architecture; thin-client multimedia production; biotech and pharmaceutical technologies; cutting-edge sports nutrition and nutraceuticals; software development, including state-of-the-art 3D, interactive dynamic image generation; 3D modeling, animation, graphics and web design; emerging VoIP and wireless network technologies; business methods, systems and processes; mechanical applications; networking and systems integration; and computer hardware and electrical devices, among others.

I have also has developed a specialized practice in all aspects of trademark and trade dress protection, enforcement and litigation, including inter and ex partes proceedings and appeals before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as international trademark registration, enforcement and cancellation matters. In addition, I regularly counsel and represent clients regarding licensing and assignment of intellectual property, trade secret protection and confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements. I also regularly advise clients regarding advertising issues and matters, including print media, Internet and television advertising, and have successfully litigated numerous advertising cases. I have also represented clients in matters involving rights of publicity and privacy and misappropriation of likeness and identity.

I am admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey (1989), the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1989), the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey (1989), the District of Columbia (1992) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (2000). My professional affiliations include the International Trademark Association, the Licensing Executives Society of North America, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association (Intellectual Property Law Section), the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association, the Monmouth County and New Jersey State Bar Associations (Intellectual Property Law Section, Internet and Computer Law Committee and Technology Committee), the New Jersey Technology Council, BioNJ (formerly, the Biotechnology Council of New Jersey) and the Intellectual Property Owners Association. I am also a past Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

I received my B.S. undergraduate degree in both biology and chemistry from Trenton State College (now College of New Jersey), with honors, and my J.D. law degree, cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law.
